A solar panel inverter or PV inverter is a type of electrical converter which converts the solar panel into a utility frequency alternating current variable direct current (DC) output of a photovoltaic (PV)(AC) that can be fed into a commercial electrical grid or used by a local, off-grid electrical network.
The electricity that is not used in your home is then either fed into the grid (electrical power lines) or into home battery storage. The new hybrid inverters include an integrated battery management system.
Long-lasting solar power systems require a high-quality inverter with a robust convection cooling system. Low-quality inverters have unfortunately failed to carry large appliances because of the capacity.
With the growth of solar+storage, inverters are also taking on responsibility for battery management. Here is a look at some different types of solar inverters.
- String inverters
- Central inverters
- Microinverters
